Printing Knowledge - Printing Classification

Printing is a technology that transfers ink from original materials such as text, images, and photos to the surface of materials like paper, fabric, and leather through a series of processes including plate-making, inking, and pressing, to achieve batch reproduction of the original content. The following is some relevant knowledge about printing. I hope it will be helpful to everyone. 01 The Process of printing The principle of printing can be summarized in five words: "Ink and water do not mix." As we all know, water and ink are needed during printing. So, how do water and ink make the text and graphics appear on the paper? A sun-dried offset printing plate is divided into hydrophilic blank areas and hydrophobic graphic areas. During printing, water is supplied first and then ink, allowing the blank areas and graphic areas to selectively absorb water and ink, respectively forming uniform water films and ink films. Only when there is a strict dividing line between the ink film in the graphic area of the printing plate and the water film in the blank area, and the oil and water do not permeate each other, can the balance of ink and water in offset printing be achieved. Only when water and ink reach a balance can the maximum ink carrying capacity in the graphic and text printing area be maintained, making the ink color bright, saturated, the dots clear and smooth, and the non-printing area highly clean and tidy. 02 Classification of Printing 1. Classification by printing method: Flatbed printing, embossed printing, screen Printing, offset Printing, Flexographic Printing, Universal Printing, Printing process, Printing equipment Display (Image source: Internet), Printing process, embossed printing, also known as flexographic printing, is used in plastic printing; Printing equipment display (Image source: Internet) Screen printing, which is what people call universal printing, can be printed on any object and is very flexible. However, it has one drawback, that is, it is not suitable for large-scale printing. Printing process printing equipment display (Image source: Internet) 2. From the classification of printing machinery, this can be divided into two types. One is classified by the size of the paper, including 8-machine, 6-machine, 4-machine, 2-machine (that is, double machine), and full machine. The second classification is based on the number of colors, including single-color machines, two-color machines, four-color machines, 4+1 color machines, and 4+ color machines. Four colors refer to the four colors we usually talk about: C, M, Y, and K. 4+1 means that the four colors of C, M, and K plus one special color, such as gold or silver. 3. Regarding the naming of printing machines, let's take an example. For instance, the 4103 machine, where "4" indicates the number of paper sheets, it is a 4-page machine. "1" indicates the number of colors and it is a monochrome machine. "03" represents an improved version, that is, the version after the process improvement.
