Properties & Application of Plastic Label Materials

Plastic Labels (Waterproof, Oil-proof & Tear-resistant)

1. Clear Polyester (Clear Dragon)

Features: Transparent face stock, waterproof, oil-proof, damage-resistant with outstanding visual presentation.

Application scenarios: Shampoo labels, daily chemical product labels, health care & pharmaceutical labels, food sealing stickers, gift & toy labels, electronic and electrical appliance labels, etc.

Many clients require labels for shampoo and other products to be applied via automatic labeling machines afterward. For such needs, 5-micron grid-liner transparent material is available and can be processed into roll labels.

Available processes: lamination, die-cutting, white under-printing, hot stamping, waste stripping.

2. Glossy White PVC

Features: Milky white face stock, waterproof, oil-proof, sun-resistant, mildly corrosion-resistant.

Application scenarios: Outdoor advertising labels, food labels, labels for oil drums & engine oil barrels, instruction labels for agricultural machinery. This material is widely adopted for purified water bucket labels. It boasts high cost performance and fits combined plate printing perfectly.

Note: Its plastic structure delivers waterproof performance, yet special sun-resistant ink is mandatory if strong anti-UV sun protection is required.

Available processes: die-cutting, lamination, waste stripping.

3. Synthetic Paper

Features: Excellent whiteness, glossiness, light resistance and dimensional stability; damp-proof, mildly corrosion-resistant, moth-proof and fold-resistant.

Application scenarios: Printed labels and product stickers for all industries.

Available processes: waste stripping, hot stamping, varnish coating, double-sided printing.

4. Pearlescent Film

Features: Glossy face stock with subtle pearlescent luster. Made of plastic, it features excellent barrier property and strong decorative pearlescent effect.

Application scenarios: Labels for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and similar commodities.

Available processes: waste stripping, varnish coating, hot stamping, double-sided printing.

5. Matte Silver Laser Film

Features: Iridescent laser luster on the surface, waterproof, oil-proof and tear-resistant.

Application scenarios: Cosmetic labels, electrical appliance labels, tile grout labels and more.

Available processes: waste stripping, hot stamping, white under-printing.

Differences Between Similar Plastic Label Materials

Among all plastic label substrates, clear polyester and matte silver laser film have distinctive appearances and can be identified at a glance. The hard-to-distinguish types are glossy white PVC, synthetic paper and pearlescent film.

Glossy White PVC VS Synthetic Paper

Distinctions:

Surface texture: Glossy white PVC has a glossy finish, while synthetic paper features a matte surface.

Thickness: Glossy white PVC is slightly thicker, synthetic paper is thinner and looks more premium.

Application difference: Synthetic paper is mainly used for high-end product stickers; glossy white PVC is commonly used for promotional stickers and general industrial product labels.

Synthetic Paper VS Pearlescent Film

These two materials look highly similar with identical adhesive and liner. Their only difference lies in the subtle pearlescent effect of pearlescent film.

It is difficult to tell them apart only from pictures provided by customers. Both support double-sided printing and are priced equally. Synthetic paper is the more widely used option.
